Pruning on Purpose

c89 ·

I’ve read a story multiple times. Today it hit differently.

A simple story about a stagnant fig tree. It produces no fruit. Year after year. Luke 13: 6 – 9

Most had given up on the fig tree. But not the gardener. He intended to keep tending the tree. And pruning it for a purpose.

So it could produce and be prosperous.

Pruning is painful. The shears slicing off what we try to hold onto.

I gripped tightly to relationships, possessions and identities. Fighting for a life Christ was fighting to free me from.

Letting go meant the loss of what I used to validate myself. I held onto stuff hindering my healing and people holding me back.

Tending is never ending. He prunes us often.

I have a Hibiscus plant. It’s my favorite flower.

I used to never prune it. Too afraid that if I removed the dead buds and leaves, it would slowly die.

It didn’t. One bud became five!

Lesson learned! God gave me a visual to help me see the spiritual.

Christ is the Gardener.

And as much as we don’t want to sometimes, we benefit tremendously by surrendering to His shears.

Today, we are becoming women who welcome the pruning process.

Why? Because we know it will simplify our lives, settle our minds and calm our emotions.

As well as free up mental and physical space, lighten our loads and add joy to our journeys.

Until next time, keep becoming.
