Emotional Mastery

Several years ago I set a goal of losing 20 pounds. But didn’t lose a single pound. For a really long time.

Why? It’s pretty simple. And common.

Because I let my emotions decide my actions. Or lack of.

My moods decided what I ate.
My feelings kept me going to the fridge.

My emotions overruled my discipline.

If I was angry, bored or upset I ate.
If I wasn’t in the mood I didn’t workout.

Emotions are responses to life. But are not meant to rule life.

I finally lost the weight. And kept it off.

And learned along the way that emotions cannot be be allowed to manipulate me.

But will if not strategically managed.

Stewardship is not limited to finances.

But also includes our time, gifts, talents, relationships, surroundings and stuff.

And yes even our emotions.

The ability to to express and experience emotions is a life asset. But when allowed to dominate us, they quickly become liabilities.

When emotions override wisdom, regret follows. Every. Single. Time.

Acknowledge your emotions. Address the issues behind them. Then take wise action in spite of them.

Master them. Make them serve you instead of being servant to them.
