Peace in the Storm

Unravelled. That’s how the world feels lately. The nightly news confirms it.

I want to be informed. But not scared by situations I can’t control.

So I’m turning the tv off. For a while anyway. And I’m throwing out my anchor. But not just any anchor.

I’m tossing over the anchor of hope. It doesn’t disappoint. Never has. Never will.

“Hope is our confident assurance. It cannot slip. It will not break down under whatever pressure bears upon it.

It is safe and steadfast placing us in His protective presence.” Hebrews 6:19 AMP

For years I put my hope in people and possessions. Often to be disappointed. I’ve also disappointed those who hoped in me.

What I know now is that where we put our hope matters.

A few years ago we were on a boat in the Destin bay with friends.

What began as a gorgeous day out on the gulf quickly became a storm I never saw coming. Much like life.

Thankfully our skilled captain knew what to do. He threw out the anchor and waited for the waters to calm.

He came prepared. I panicked.

I didn’t know the purpose of the anchor. He did. I saw a raging sea. He saw the solution to surviving storms.

The anchor of hope is designed by God for these exact moments.

An anchor is designed to dig down deep into the seabed when dropped. So while winds and currents rage, the boat remains in position.

The same is true with the anchor of hope. It embeds itself in His promises, protection, provision and peace. It keeps us calm in chaos.

When we’re scared, situations look hopeless, the hurt is more than our hearts can handle and the nightly news leaves knots in our stomachs, let us drop anchor and hope in Him.

He will steady, stabilize and secure our minds. Calm our fears, wipes our tears and holds us close until the storm passes by.
