A Choice to Make

Today we have some choices to make. Especially in situations that are confusing, frustrating or overwhelming.

What do you do when you don’t know what to do?

Let’s ask Joseph. This political leader, former prisoner and favored son knows the answer.

While sitting in jail for a crime he didn’t commit he’s faced with a choice.

I read a book once entitled The Power of Now which offers four choices available when we’re in an undesirable circumstance.

We can complain about it, leave it, change or accept it.

But Joseph gives us a fifth choice. It’s my preferred one.

He’s in prison. Whining won’t free him and leaving isn’t an option. Unless he’s pardoned or released, changing his situation isn’t possible.

That leaves accepting it. So he does. But it’s his next choice that changes how his story ends.

He decides who he wants to be while in it. A man who uses what he has to thrive where is. Joseph’s skillset included management, administration and leadership.

He looks for ways to use them. This lead to a promotion from prisoner to prison manager. “ . . . so whatever was done there, he was in charge of it.” Gen 39:23

Joseph figured if he had to do jail time he’d do it his way. As a man of excellence, purpose and service.

He didn’t know if his situation would ever change. But he did know he got to decide who he’d be in it.

And that decision led to his freedom from prisoner to political leader.

While I don’t know your current situation or season, I do know that you get to make a choice.

If you have to accept it, I recommend the fifth choice and decide who you want to be in it.

Joseph’s experience is your inspiration.

He showed up everyday bringing his skillset to surroundings he didn’t ask for or deserve.

His story is our solution.

Are you in a situation you feel forced to accept? At least for now. Maybe it’s in your job, marriage, family dynamics, finances or health.

Who do you want to be while in it?

A woman of confidence, intentionality, poise, discipline, forgiving, brave, elegant, empathy, powerful, strong, focused? You get to choose.

How Joseph navigated his situation teaches us how to navigate ours successfully!
