This year you’re going to be invited to do this one thing (a lot).
And you get to choose to say yes or no. Choose “no.”
Yes, this opportunity will look amazing but it’s a set up – a trap to trip you up.
What is it? Terah, Abraham’s dad will tell you.
Terah lived with his wife and children in Ur but wanted to leave “in order to enter the land of Canaan” aka the promised land of bounty and blessings.
He never made it for this one reason.
He said yes to stopping short of his desired destination.
He only got “as far as Haran.” He settled there and his story ends. Gen 11:31
Why he stopped short we don’t know. Maybe for the same reasons we do.
We grow tired, discouraged, frustrated, overwhelmed or scared.
Or we reach a point that feels “good enough” even though great was available.
Your promised land is waiting for you to arrive – your ideal weight, wealth, relationships, career, home, car etc – it’s all there for you to take ownership of and enjoy.
But along the way you’ll have plenty of chances to stop settle in, get comfortable and convince yourself that “good enough” is good enough.
But keep going.
By all means rest, regroup and refocus when needed but do not stop until you’ve reached your goal or desire.
Sadly Terah died in Haran along with his dream of experiencing the best for himself and his family.
No you won’t die physically if you say yes to stopping short of your goal or dream. But it’s highly likely you will die with deep regret.
You don’t want that to be the final chapter in your story. Neither does God.
Stay focused on your destination. Your promised land awaits!
