At Wit’s End

What do you do when you’ve reached your wit’s end?

When the diagnosis isn’t good, the marriage is on rocky ground, the prodigal child refuses to come home or the bank balance isn’t enough to pay the bills?

When life feels hard, your stomach is in knots and your heart hurts?

When you fight back tears and fears? When the job ends, the friendship fails, when you’re excluded, overlooked or overwhelmed?

When the nightly news is horrific, the world feels out of control and hope is dwindling?

When the storm rages and your faith is running on fumes?

When you’ve prayed, petitioned and pleaded to God for help?

You stand.

You may stand with tears streaming down your face, with weak knees and a heavy heart but you stand.

I know this from experience.

Paul reminds us to “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” Eph 6:13

Stand your ground when your boundaries, integrity or faith is being tested, pushed, tried or bullied. 1 Cor 16:13

Stand on the Word as the foundation that will not fall apart when everything around you is shattering. Matt 7: 24 -29

Stand in the presence of Jehovah. 1 Kings 9:11-12

Stand and see God fight your battle. Ex 14:13

Stand still and listen for encouragement and instruction. Ps 46:10

Stand. Hold on and let Him calm your nerves, heal your mind and body and replenish and refresh your faith, hope and spirit.

Stand in holy awe of the Father who will fight your battles, provide your needs from His wealth, protect, comfort, shield, restore and love you with an everlasting love.

And when you’ve done all, simply stand.
