Thriving in the Wilderness

The wilderness is that place most of us never want to go.

We associate the wilderness with dry, deserted, desolate and despairing moments.

Wilderness seasons can feel lonely, trying and never ending even when God provides and protects us as He did the Hebrew children in their forty year desert journey.

In their wilderness God wanted them to trust Him alone to meet their physical and spiritual needs and He did without faltering or failing.

No one would voluntarily walk into a wilderness yet Jesus did willingly.

He was led into a forty day experience by the Holy Spirit who had a plan and a purpose.

The wilderness wasn’t punishment but part of a process, a divine opportunity to prepare Him for ministry.

It began with a scriptural showdown with Satan as he challenged Christ’s identity, power and loyalty which Christ won.

I believe Jesus emerged from that wilderness season empowered, encouraged and ready to begin His journey to the cross.

He also gives us a simple, proven and powerful battle strategy to overcome the enemy and win every time.

Jesus spoke the Word of God, using this mighty sword to completely disarm the enemy. We are to do likewise.

The next time you find yourself in a wilderness season

  1. Trust that God will protect and provide your needs (physical, spiritual, financial, etc)
  2. Let the Holy Spirit use this time to prepare you for whatever God has next and
  3. When the enemy attacks your mind with lies, counter attack with the Truth which is God’s Word. Arm yourself and swing your spiritual sword.

Walk into that wilderness boldly knowing God will be with you every step of the way and you will come out on the other side stronger in your faith!
